Hey, while you are here, check out my current beat:
http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen /393288

Over the past years I had a lot of ideas for Flash games and movies. But while studying CS in college I figured out that I am more of a programmer than an artist. That's why I seem to have more patience for programming.

Right now I work on the basics for a sandbox-style game. I began to implement it in Java, but then I came across FlashDevelop and the FlashPunk engine. So I now work with AS3, which is not really hard, when you know other high-level languages.

As I just mentioned, I want to create a sandbox game. I won't tell you the details about gameplay and genre, yet, but visually I aim for a look as in Final Fantasy: Tactics Advance 2 (see picture below, isometric 2,5D perspective). I haven't played it so far, but I can tell from the various sprites, that the player goes from one "stage" to another. This is something that I don't want.
I want an open world (randomly generated) without any limits (think of Dwarf Fortress with Stonesense). But I won't go for the DF gameplay, you'll see later.

At the moment I am working on the datastructures for my map and game world. Thanks to Flash and FlashPunk, I don't have to worry about things like FPS (one of the reasons, why I gave up on Java). Also, I don't have any sprites or tiles to work with, so I just took some isometric gras tiles from Google, that should work for now. As soon as I'll have a stable tech demo, I will look for artist here on NG, who'll provide me with good tiles.

That's it for now. By the way, I have a new notebook, so you will see more beats and more info on my game soon.

Peace
